What does it mean when a leader lies? It’s a question no one is asking. In 1959 President Eisenhower lied about the U-2 incident.

Our world has changed. Not very long ago almost everyone agreed that killing babies in the womb was terribly wrong, that homosexuality was not God’s way, and that sex belonged inside marriage. They were sure some things were right and others wrong.
Add a commentIn the previous two blogs, I have tried to present reasons why and how we should love those with whom we disagree. I have suggested that, on the model of how Jesus loved us, this even includes those whom we think are sinning.

In my previous blog, I suggested three reasons why we should love those with whom we disagree and I started that blog with a story narrated by Stan Duncan, columnist for the Huffington Post.
Add a commentChristmas is just plain hilarious. Not the secular kind with Tiny Tim or elves playing tricks, but the in-your-face Christian version. The hilarity began a lot earlier, back when the angel told Abraham that his 91-year-old wife Sarah was about to have a baby—and she laughed and laughed.

A black rhino blocked our path, larger than two SUVs. Barb held and petted a baby lion. And we watched transfixed as three whales swam round and round our boat as it bobbed in the Indian Ocean.

ABD is the saddest abbreviation there is. What if someone is sure that they have the gifts and calling to be a high-level teacher and so go after their doctorate, get through the courses and the stiff exam (in Germany the Rigorosum!), but never get their dissertation accepted?
Add a commentI spent twenty-four years of my life getting educated. I mention this not to boast, but to say that I’ve sat through a lot of classes. The best class I ever had—the one I value above all the others—was a course in seminary on Jonathan Edwards’ book, Freedom of the Will.
Add a commentA few days ago California Governor Jerry Brown signed into law a new provision for the public schools of California. The law mandates that children who are confused about their gender identity may use whichever restroom they feel comfortable in.
