This essay aims to explore the answers to two questions concerning apostasy (riddah/murtad) in Islam: (1) Can one leave Islam? (2) What are the Muslim community’s responses to those who leave Islam or indicated the decision to do so? As reminded by Malaysian Christian theologian Ng Kam Weng, I am aware that “it is not the business of the Christian to tell Muslims how they should hold their beliefs.”[2]
