Ministry to a Local Business Community

January 13, 2009 -- Outreach into the Church's Local Business Community (Report from Rev. Calvyn Jonker of Howich Baptist Church in Aukland, New Zealand):

I think it was Mark Dever who said that he deliberately uses the same restaurants and local businesses, etc so that he can build relationships with the local business community, and thereby create opportunities to also speak into people's lives with the gospel message. Our church has taken up this idea, prayed for the Lord to open opportunities for us and have been really excited to see what the Lord does! The restaurant owner accross the road from the church (a nominal Muslim) came to church for the first time in his life and asked for a free New testament when he left. We are now following up with this relationship. The local clockmaker came to our men's breakfast (held at the same restaurant previously mentioned) and the local toy shop owner (a Hindu), the coffee shop owner and barrista have been having really meaningful spiritual conversations with our members. We look forward with excitement to see what the Lord does through outward-focused Christians!

Maybe your church could do the same?
