The Cross Cultural Ministry of Hosting Refugees
A Report from WRF Member Dr. John LaShell
My wife and I have hosted three refugee families in the past few years. Two families were Meskhetian Turks from Russia. One family has since moved away, but we still see the other one. Though they are Muslims, both families were willing to watch the Jesus Film in Turkish. More recently, we hosted a family of Karen Christians, who have been living in a refugee camp in Thailand for eleven years. They have begun attending church with us. In all three cases, the families stayed with us a week or two until their social worker found them an apartment, but they continued to need our weekly help for some time after that. It has been a challenging, but very rewarding experience. The Catholic Social Agency is the refugee settling contractor in our area, but other organizations may be active where you live.
