FORMER MUSLIM SPEAKS AT RTS WORLD MISSIONS CONFERENCE SEPT. 9-11
The RTS World Missions Conference will meet Sept. 9-11 at RTS/Jackson. The speaker, Thabiti Anyabwile, former Muslim, is now serving as the senior pastor of First Baptist Church of Grand Cayman. Prior to this ministry he served as an elder and assistant pastor for children and families at Capitol Hill Baptist Church in Washington D.C. His given name was Ron Burns but upon converting to Muslim, he changed his last name to (Anyabwile) which means "God has set me free." Years later when he began watching a Christian TV evangelist and after attending this church, he converted to Christianity. He holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in psychology from North Carolina State University and has written two books: The Faithful Preacher: Recovering the Vision of Three Pioneering African-American Preachers and The Decline of African-American Theology: From Biblical Faithfulness to Cultural Captivity. He is married to Kristie and has three children, Afiya, Eden and Titus.
