Kingdom Activities in Sri Lanka

Greetings from Calvary Reformed Presbyterian Chapel and Geneva Institute in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Started in 2000, this Reformed church (supported by Calvary Jurong BPC in Singapore) has grown over the years to about 100 people (and kindergarten of 50) with a Bible school to equip and train pastors and preachers for the wide harvest field here of 20m people in a predominantly Buddhist background. This visit also brings back memories of the tsunami in Dec 2004 where the gigiantic tidal waves travelling at 300km/h came crashing from the Indian Ocean (we are staying just 200 m from it ) inland and devastated and buildings and the church was partially flooded with no casualties. God is gracious to preserve His own. Thank God that the security situation here has improved a bit. We were stopped at a security checkpoint on monday night on the way from the airport but there was no incident. Our task here is to teach about 20 hrs of reformation church history to the theological students and lay leaders who will earn 2 credits toward their degree, diploma or cetificate programme. By God's grace, we have completed 10 hrs of lectures so far and conducted a mid-course quiz. It has been tiring over the past few days but rewarding as we interacted with eager and attentive students and lay leaders who are fervent and serious about learning God's Word and His sovereign grace in the church over the years. Eld Vijay, a zealous man who loves the Lord and the gospel, is one of the interpreters here. Another interpreter, Dinesh who is a doctor attends the classes at night with great delight. Some of the students/preachers took 2 days to travel here. 5 students come from Jaffna which is the seat of violence and unrest with the Tamil Tigers there and some from Tricomalee and elsewhere. We covet your prayers for us for we have another 3 more lectures to complete and a final exam on Friday, a family worship cum Bible study on Friday night on 'Biblical vs Contemporary Worship', 2 worship services on Sun morning and Sun Sch in the evening. Angie will have her 3 hr session with the ladies and Sun Sch staff on Sat morning on “The Biblical Warrant for Evangelisation to Children.” Dr. Paul HooleThis email address is being protected from spambots.
