The Sixth General Assembly of the WRF
Orlando, Florida - USA
Thursday, October 27th, to Sunday, October 30th, 2022.
General Theme for the Assembly
The Nature & Mission of the Global Church
The Doctrine of the Church (Ecclesiology) is the focus of the Sixth General Assembly of the World Reformed Fellowship. Within a reformed theological framework, this emphasis is also, by nature, missional (for more on this, see the book Reformed Means Missional, published by the WRF in 2013), therefore, the emphasis will be on the theological and the practical aspects of The Nature & Mission of the Global Church. The purpose will be to highlight crucial aspects of her nature (theology) and her practical action.
During the COVID-19 pandemic and this new post-pandemic period churches have been forced to revisit their self-understanding and some aspects of their practical ministry. We understand that it is important, at this time, to reflect and shed light on what the Church is and what she does, from a biblical and reformed perspective.
We also believe this dovetails beautifully with the sequence of theological documents produced by the Theology Commission of the World Reformed Fellowship, as well as the themes of the two previous general assemblies:
- The World Reformed Fellowship Statement of Faith was received and approved at The Fourth General Assembly of the WRF in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on March 26, 2015;
- The World Reformed Fellowship Statement of Reformed Theological Identity was received and approved at The Fifth General Assembly of the WRF in Jakarta, in August 2019;
- The commission´s current work on The Doctrine of the Church (Ecclesiology) will be presented at the Sixth General Assembly in Orlando.
- The Fourth General Assembly (São Paulo 2015) dealt directly with the missional challenges for the Global Church, while the Fifth General Assembly tackled the apologetic challenges (Jakarta 2019).
- The Church: Reformed and Catholic
- The Church and the Kingdom of God
- The Worship of the Church
- The Unity of the Church
- The Holiness of the Church
- The Church as a Religious Minority
- Reformed Theology, Politics and Economics
- The Church under pressure from the State
- The Church, Faith and Work
- Theological Education and the Global Church
- The Global Church and Missional Cooperative Endeavors
- The Ten Commandments and the Church in the World
- The Church Dealing with Abuse
Dates and Venue
The WRF General Assembly 2022 will be held in the city of Orlando, Florida (USA), starting with Worship and an Opening Session at 2 pm on Thursday, October 27th, 2022 and ending with a Closing Session during the Reformation Sunday Traditional Worship Service with First Presbyterian Church of Orlando on Sunday, October 30th, 2022.
The meetings will be held at the beautiful facilities of the First Presbyterian Church in Orlando (FPCO). Meals will only be provided for the Networking Luncheon on Saturday (boxed lunches) and all other meals will be the responsibility of participants. There are many different restaurants and fast food chains in the vicinity of First Presbyterian Church for lunch and dinner each day. Breakfast will be provided in most hotels.
Due to the popularity of Orlando as a travel destination, blocks of reserved rooms at hotels do not grant additional savings. The large volume of travelers, however, does keep airfare and hotels competitive. Below is a list of suggested hotels in three different levels and per night price ranges: economy (under U$100), moderate (U$100 to U$150) and comfort (U$150+). Please note the distance from the hotel to FPCO in the hotel listings below.
Some hotel do offer transportation services and Orlando has an excellent public transportation system. Check out the following options to get you from the hotel to the venue, in case your chosen hotel is not within walking distance: The LYMMO Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service; the LYNX Bus Service; and the SunRail commuter rail service.
